About Beautiful Me Easterseals Michigan is excited to introduce Beautiful Me, a fashion show featuring children and young adults from our Miracle League programs who will be modeling adaptive clothing designs. The event will raise funds for our Miracle League programs and also raise awareness on the importance of having adaptive clothing designs available for those with various disabilities. The event will feature a fashion show, strolling lunch, raffles, prizes and shopping opportunities from local vendors. About Easterseals Michigan Our purpose is to spread help, hope and answers. Easterseals Michigan works to change the way the world defines and views disabilities by making profound, positive differences in people’s lives every day. Offering an extensive array of services for all ages, Easterseals provides essential care for individuals struggling with mental illnesses, substance use disorders, autism spectrum disorders and emotional trauma. We take pride in helping people with diverse abilities live, work and play in their communities. About Miracle League Every young baseball fan dreams of hitting their first home run as a packed stadium cheers them on. But for some kids, a physical, cognitive, or other challenge prevents them from joining local leagues and playing baseball with their friends. The Miracle League removes the barriers that keep children with disabilities off the baseball field and lets them experience the joy of America’s favorite pastime. Since the main barriers for these children arise from the natural grass fields used in conventional youth leagues, Miracle League teams play on a custom-designed, synthetic turf field that accommodates wheelchairs and other assistive devices while helping to prevent injuries. But it’s more than playing a game. The Miracle League is about making new friends in an inclusive atmosphere, building self-esteem and being treated just like other kids. To help the athletes, we use a “buddy” system – pairing each player with an able-bodied peer. What results is a bond that cannot be described. During the winter months, the friendships and bonds formed continue through specialized bowling leagues and dance groups. Funds raised will support programming at The Miracle League of Michigan in Southfield and The Miracle League of North Oakland at Friendship Park in Lake Orion, opening in the summer of 2019.
