Impact of COVID on Michigan’s Workers’ Comp Law

Wednesday, April 14, 2021 (9:00 AM - 9:30 AM) (EDT)

Description

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Foster Swift will continue hosting its monthly 2nd Wednesday virtual town hall sessions in 2021 as a means to bring together interested clients and friends of the firm and provide a forum to discuss a brewing legal topic.

This month's 2nd Wednesday Morning Break will address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Michigan Workers' Compensation law. In this episode, host and attorney Patricia Scott will interview fellow attorney Alicia Birach on how the pandemic has affected premiums, case progression and the nature of work injuries, including injuries arising from remote work.

One of the most contentious aspects of workers’ compensation during the pandemic has been whether contracting coronavirus is a compensable injury for purposes of workers' compensation claims.

Employers have struggled to keep up with the slew of emergency orders issued and the real-life situations that have arisen from those orders. This discussion aims to clarify some of the confusion surrounding workers' compensation due to the pandemic.
